Weekly, fortnightly or monthly: how often should a cleaner come?
How to choose between weekly, fortnightly and every-4-weeks cleaning: who each suits, how the hours change, and how a regular booking with the same cleaner works on Ousie.
Published 3 min read
There is no single right answer to how often a home should be cleaned. It depends on how many people live there, whether there are pets or small children, how much time you have and how you want the house to feel between visits. Here is how to choose between weekly, fortnightly and every 4 weeks, and how a regular booking works on Ousie.
Weekly
Weekly suits busy households: families with young children, homes with pets, share houses, and anyone who wants the kitchen and bathrooms properly done every week without thinking about it. Because little builds up between visits, each clean can be shorter, and the home never gets far from clean.
Fortnightly
Fortnightly is a common middle ground for couples and small families who keep on top of the daily tidying themselves. The cleaner handles the floors, bathrooms and kitchen properly every two weeks, and the cost is half of weekly. Visits tend to need a little more time than weekly ones because more has built up.
Every 4 weeks (monthly)
Every 4 weeks suits one or two tidy adults, smaller homes and anyone who wants a thorough reset once a month. Each visit does more catching up, so book more hours than you would for a weekly clean. On Ousie, monthly means every 4 weeks on the same weekday, so the day never drifts.
How to decide
- Pets or young children: weekly, or fortnightly with more hours.
- One or two adults who tidy as they go: fortnightly or every 4 weeks.
- Allergies or asthma in the house: weekly, with dusting and vacuuming as the priority.
- Long working hours and little time at home: weekly or fortnightly, so the home is always ready to come back to.
- Watching the budget: fewer, longer visits usually cost less than frequent short ones, as long as the home does not slide between them.
How a regular booking works on Ousie
- Book once and choose weekly, fortnightly or every 4 weeks, plus the weekday and start time.
- Police-checked independent cleaners near you apply. You compare them and choose who comes.
- The same cleaner stays on your booking from clean to clean.
- Each clean is priced the same way and paid after it is done, by card in the app or online, or in cash if you chose cash.
- Need to skip or move a clean? Ask in the app. Need more time on the day? Your cleaner asks, and nothing is added unless you approve it.
- Not working out? Contact us and we reopen the booking so other cleaners can apply, and you choose again.
A regular clean is $175 for the first 3 hours, then $52 for each extra hour, whichever frequency you choose. The details are on the regular house cleaning page.
Start with a deep clean if it has been a while
Regular cleans work best in a home that is already at a good baseline. If it has been months since a proper clean, book a deep clean first. The regular visits that follow go faster, and the hours you book for them can be fewer.
Next step
Set up your regular clean.
Police-checked independent cleaners apply, you choose who comes, and you see the full price first.
